The Benefits of Transitional Housing for Those in Recovery from Addiction

The Benefits of Transitional Housing for Those in Recovery from Addiction

Substance abuse directly affects over 23 million Americans, and treatment is a $35 billion dollar industry. Residing in a sober liver environment, with others who have gone through the same experiences, provides specific support for those who need time to transition to independent living. Research confirms structured sober living homes support early recovery by improving chances of continued abstinence by over 600%.

Sober living homes fill the gap between treatment and independent housing. During the first couple of weeks of residency at a sober living house, the rules will be strict, as you will be learning a new way of living. Some of the restrictions include: curfew, no guests allowed at the residence, monitoring of your attendance at 12-step meetings every week, your attendance at weekly house meetings, finding a sponsor within the first two weeks of residency, if you do not already have one.

Rules are designed to accomplish several things. However, just like any of the new tools learned during AA meetings, it is known that when we make a point of working at it, and not against it, we benefit in personal growth.
